Updated: Mar 22, 2023

You will need:

  • 10mm hook

  • Yarn - Either worsted weight yarn, in DOUBLE STRANDS tied onto your hook, or a chunky weight yarn (6 or higher) in six colours: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple

Starting with purple:

Chain 4

Row 1: 7dc in 4th chain. Chain 1, turn.

Row 2: 2dc in each dc. Chain 1, turn. (14dc)

Row 3: 2dc, 1dc, repeat. Chain 1, turn. (21dc)

Change to blue

Row 4: 2dc, 1 dc in next 2. Chain 1, turn. (28dc)

Row 5: 2dc, 1dc in next 3 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (35dc)

Change to green

Row 6: 2dc, 1dc in next 4 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (42dc)

Row 7: 2dc, 1dc in the next 5 stitches, repeat until the end. Chain 1, turn. (49dc)

Change to yellow

Row 8: 2dc, 1dc in the next 6 stitches, repeat until the end. Chain 1, turn. (56dc)

Row 9: 2dc, 1dc in the next 7 stitches, repeat until the end. Chain 1, turn. (63dc)

Change to orange

Row 10: 2dc, 1dc in the next 8 stitches, repeat until the end. Chain 1, turn. (70dc)

Row 11: 2dc, 1dc in the next 9 stitches, repeat until the end, Chain 1, turn. (77dc)

Change to red

Row 12: 2dc, 1dc in the next 10 stitches, repeat until the end. Chain 1, turn. (85dc)

Row 13: 1dc in each stitch, fasten off, weave in ends.

CLOUDS

With white, Chain 4

Row 1: In fourth chain from hook, 12dc. Slipstitch to join to the first dc (12dc)

Row 2: Chain 3. 2dc in the same stitch. 2dc in each stitch around, slipstitch to join to the first dc (24dc)

Here, you can fasten off. You'll need to make 3 of the smaller clouds. To make the larger clouds, we continue with one more row (see below):

Row 3: Chain 3. 2dc in the same stitch, 1dc in the next. *2dc in the next stitch, 1dc in the next.* Repeat ** around, slipstitch to the first dc to join. Fasten off, leaving a tail to sew to the rainbow. (36dc)

Using a yarn needle (or your crochet hook), sew the clouds to the bottom of the rainbow with the long tail.

For installation, you can tie some yarn to the arch of the rainbow (see above) to then tie it to a fence, or pin it to a wall. Hey, it's up to you!
