Xmas Pudding Beanie Pattern

Updated: Aug 14, 2023

You will need:

  • A 5.5mm crochet hook

  • Medium/Worsted weight yarn (4) in White, Brown, Red and Green

  • Polyfil stuffing (for the cherry)

This beanie will be made using the puff stitch. For those unfamiliar to the puff, I have provided a tutorial via https://www.crochetguru.com:

Let's get crocheting!

Start with white.

Chain 6, slip stitch to the first chain to create a ring.

Row 1: Chain 2, 6 Puff stitches in the ring. Slip stitch to the first puff to join (6 puffs)

Row 2: Slip stitch into the space in between the puffs. Chain 2, make 2 puff stitches in the same space and each space around. Slip stitch to the first Puff to join. (12 puffs)

Row 3: Slip stitch into the space in between the puffs. Chain 2, make 2 puff stitches in the same space, then 1 puff in the next space. 2 puffs in the next space, 1 puff in the next - repeat around until you reach the end, then slip stitch to the first puff to join. (18 puffs)

Row 4: Slip stitch into the space in between the puffs. Chain 2, make 2 puff stitches in the same space, then 1 puff in the next two spaces. 2 puffs in the next space, 1 puff in the next two spaces - repeat around until you reach the end, then slip stitch to the first puff to join. (24 puffs)

Row 5: Slip stitch into the space in between the puffs. Chain 2, make 2 puff stitches in the same space, then 1 puff in the next three spaces. 2 puffs in the next space, 1 puff in the next three spaces - repeat around until you reach the end, then slip stitch to the first puff to join. (30 puffs)

Row 6: Slip stitch into the space in between the puffs. Chain 2, make 2 puff stitches in the same space, then 1 puff in the next four spaces. 2 puffs in the next space, 1 puff in the next four spaces - repeat around until you reach the end, then slip stitch to the first puff to join. (36 puffs)

Row 7: Slip stitch into the space in between the puffs. Chain 2, 1 puff stitch in the same space and each space around. Slip stitch to the first puff to join. (36 puffs)

Row 8

This is the row where we will start to incorporate the brown for the "pudding."As we complete the puff stitch, we will switch the yarn over from white to brown.

The row with two browns puffs between four white is row 8

How to switch yarns:

After we have seven loops on our hook and are ready to pull the yarn through all of them, instead of white, we will yarn over with the BROWN yarn and pull brown through all seven loops, and finish the stitch as usual. I have provided photos to help!

(I used a 5mm hook in this photo tutorial, please ignore! haha)

Make the puff stitch as usual

Now take your brown yarn,

Pull through all seven loops,

Complete the puff stitch,

And continue with the next!

When changing yarns, keep the other colour behind the stitches (do not cut the yarn) as you work along the row, as we will be changing the colours regularly.

Start with white.

Row 8: Slip stitch into the space in between the puffs. Chain 2, make 1 puff stitch in the same space and the next space. As you are completing the second puff stitch, change to brown. Now, make 1 puff stitch with brown in the next 2 spaces. Change to white at the end of the second puff. Repeat (4 white puffs, 2 browns puffs) around until you reach the end, slip stitch to the first puff to join. (36 puffs)

Row 9: Slip stitch into the space in between the puffs. Chain 2, make 1 puff stitch in the same space, change to brown. Now, make 1 puff stitch with brown in the next 3 spaces. Change to white at the end of the third puff. *Repeat (3 white puffs, 3 browns puffs) around until you reach the end, slip stitch to the first puff to join. (36 puffs)

Row 10: Start with brown! Slip stitch into the space in between the puffs. Chain 2, make 1 puff stitch in the same space and the next 3 spaces, change to white. 1 puff stitch in the next 2 spaces, change to brown. 1 puff stitch in the next 4 spaces, change to white. Repeat (2 white puffs, 4 brown puffs) until you reach the end, slip stitch to the first puff stitch to join. (36 puffs)

Row 11: Slip stitch into the space in between the puffs. Chain 2, make 1 puff stitch in the same space and the next 3 spaces, change to white. 1 puff stitch in the next space, change to brown. 1 puff stitch in the next 5 spaces, change to white. Repeat (1 white puff, 5 brown puffs) until you reach the end, slip stitch to the first puff stitch to join. (36 puffs)

Now we will just be working with brown!

Row 12 - 16: Slip stitch into the space in between the puffs. Chain 2, 1 puff stitch in the same space and each space around. Slip stitch to the first puff to join. (36 puffs)

Row 17 - 19: Chain 1, sc in the same stitch. 1sc in each chain space and each puff stitch around. Slip stitch to the first sc to join. Fasten off, weave in ends.

CHERRY:

Chain 2

Round 1: In second chain from hook, 6sc

Round 2: 2sc in each stitch (12sc)

Round 3: 2sc in the next stitch, 1sc in the next, repeat around (18sc)

Round 4 - 6: 1sc in each stitch around (18sc)

Round 5: sg2tog, 1sc in the next, repeat around (12sc)

Round 6: sc2tog, repeat around. Fasten off, leaving along tail to tie to the beanie.

Sew the cherry right in the centre of the top of the beanie.

INCIDENTALLY, if you'd prefer an ice cream hat instead, you can finish here and not add the leaves. It's surprising what a difference they make! Leaves = Xmas Pudding. No leaves = Ice Cream!

LEAVES (Make 2 or 3):

Chain 11

Working back along the chain (start at the second chain from the hook):

sc, hdc, dc, dc, tr, tr, dc, dc, hdc, sc. Fasten off, leaving a tail to sew the leaves to the beanie. You can attach them next to the cherry.

Aaaand you're done! A cute, cozy, beanie just in time for the holidays! I hope you enjoyed this pattern, and if you make one, please share your work, I'd love to see! :)

At 14 DPO (day after ovulation), the body may already show the first signs of pregnancy, as the level of hCG in the blood increases https://femia.health/health-library/getting-pregnant/trying-to-conceive/14-dpo/. Symptoms may include fatigue, breast tenderness, mild cramping, and implantation bleeding. However, they are similar to premenstrual symptoms, so the best way to find out is to take a pregnancy test. At this time, tests are already quite accurate, especially if you use morning urine.

To learn more about the symptoms and process at 14 DPO, I recommend reading the article on the femia health website.

Hello! I would like to know more about 14 DPO (days after ovulation). What symptoms can be expected at this time, and how to distinguish early signs of pregnancy from PMS? What tests are most accurate at this time, and should you rely on them to determine pregnancy? I am also interested in what happens to the hCG level in the body at 14 DPO and how it can be measured. Thanks in advance for the clarification!
