Skull That Beer Cozy

The sun is out and here to stay (hopefully), so stock your fridges full of drinks and make those cozies when everyone comes around! With the help of a cozy, you'll never lose your drink or take someone else's by accident (they also keep your hands dry).

If you're a fan of skulls,the macabre, pirates etc, or you know someone who does, then this pattern is for you. I hope you like it!

You will need:

• A 4mm (G) crochet hook

• Medium weight yarn in Black and White (or two colours of your choice)

• A beer for when you're done! (or a non-alcoholic beverage, if you prefer!)

In order to make this cozy, you will need to know how to tapestry crochet in back loops only. There is a fantastic video tutorial via ChabePatterns explaining how to do both here:

When changing colours, my instructions will go as follows: "1sc in the next 14 stitches (change to white)" - this means you will change to white on the 14th stitch. The stitch itself will not be green, but the next one will be, so you must switch yarns on that stitch to continue. I hope that made sense.

Additionally, sometimes you will have to change from one colour to another for ONLY ONE STITCH. For example, 14 sc in black, change to white, 1sc in white, change back to black. This can get a little fiddly, but be patient! This won't happen too often in this pattern.

Let's get crocheting!

Row 1: 6sc in the second chain from hook, slip stitch to the first sc to join (6sc).

Row 2: Chain 1 (does not count as sc) 2sc in each stitch around, slip stitch to the first sc to join (12sc).

Row 3: Chain 1 (does not count as sc), 2sc in the same stitch, 1sc in the next, *2sc in the next stitch, 1sc in the next* repeat ** around, slip stitch to the first sc to join (18sc).

Row 4: Chain 1, 2sc in the same stitch, 1sc in the next 2 stitches, *2sc in the next stitch, 1sc in the next 2 stitches, repeat ** around, slip stitch to the first sc to join (24sc).

Row 5: Chain 1, 2sc in the same stitch, 1sc in the next 3 stitches, *2sc in the next stitch, 1sc in the next 3 stitches, repeat ** around, slip stitch to the first sc to join (30sc).

Row 6: Chain 1, 2sc in the same stitch, 1sc in the next 4 stitches, *2sc in the next stitch, 1sc in the next 4 stitches, repeat ** around, slip stitch to the first sc to join (36sc).

Row 7: Chain 1, 2sc in the same stitch, 1sc in the next 5 stitches, *2sc in the next stitch, 1sc in the next 5 stitches, repeat ** around, slip stitch to the first sc to join (42sc).

Row 8 & 9: Chain 1, in BACK LOOPS ONLY, 1sc in each stitch around. Slip stitch to first sc to join.

Row 10: Chain 1, (back loops only) 1sc in the same stitch and the next 15 stitches (change to white on the 15th stitch), 1sc in white (change back to black), 1sc in black (change to white again), 1sc in white (change to black), 1sc in black, (chain to white) 1sc in white (change to black) 1sc in black (change to white) 1sc in white (change to black), 1sc in black for the remaining (19) stitches of the row. Slip stitch to the first sc to join.

Row 11: Chain 1, 1sc in the same stitch and the next 15 stitches, (change to white on the 15th stitch), 1sc in the next 7 stitches (change to black), 1sc in the remaining (19) stitches of the row. Slip stitch to the first stitch to join.

Row 12: Chain 1, 1sc in the same stitch and the next 15 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 9 stitches (change to black), 1sc in the remaining (18) stitches of the row. Slip stitch to the first stitch to join.

Row 13: Chain 1, 1sc in the same stitch and the next 12 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 5 stitches (change to black) 1sc in the next 3 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 5 stitches (change to black), 1sc in the remaining (16) stitches of the row. Slip stitch to the first stitch to join.

Row 14: Chain 1, 1sc in the same stitch and the next 12 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 6 stitches (change to black), 1sc in the next stitch (change to white), 1sc in the next 6 stitches (change to black), 1sc in the remaining (16) stitches in the row. Slip stitch to the first stitch to join.

Row 15: Chain 1, 1sc in the same stitch and the next 12 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 3 stitches (change to black) 1sc in the next 2 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 3 stitches (change to black), 1sc in the next 2 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 3 stitches (change to black), 1sc in the remaining (16) stitches in the row. Slip stitch to the first stitch to join.

Row 16 - 18: Chain 1, 1sc in the same stitch and the next 12 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 2 stitches (change to black), 1sc in the next 4 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next stitch (change to black), 1sc in the next 4 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 2 stitches (change to black), 1sc in the remaining (16) stitches in the row. Slip stitch to the first stitch to join.

Row 19: Chain 1, 1sc in the same stitch and the next 12 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 3 stitches (change to black) 1sc in the next 2 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 3 stitches (change to black), 1sc in the next 2 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 3 stitches (change to black), 1sc in the remaining (16) stitches in the row. Slip stitch to the first stitch to join.

Row 20: Chain 1, 1sc in the same stitch and the next 12 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 13 stitches (change to black), 1sc in the remaining (16) stitches in the row. Slip stitch to the first stitch to join.

Row 21 & 22: Chain 1, 1sc in the same stitch and the next 13 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 11 stitches (change to black), 1sc in the remaining (17) stitches in the row. Slip stitch to the first stitch to join.

Row 23: Chain 1, 1sc in the same stitch and the next 14 stitches (change to white), 1sc in the next 9 stitches (change to black), 1sc in the remaining (18) stitches in the row. Slip stitch to the first stitch to join.

Row 24: Chain 1, 1sc in the same stitch and each stitch around. Slip stitch to the first sc to join. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Aaaand you're done! Time to crack open a beer (or soft drink) to celebrate your achievement!
